The day started with a nice little queue of eager drivers at the gate at 10am, the turn out was excellent with members and visitors enjoying the day from the start, we had an increased number of Marshals due to the size of the site and these were quickly being fully utilised with drivers getting stuck in the softer sand over the back of the site, no repeats of the 4 hour recovery of last year though thankfully!
The site is very large so people did have a few issues with being lost or not quite sure where they were a sample conversation on the site radios was:
Driver "can you help we are stuck"
Marshal "where are you?"
Driver "In a big Puddle and water is coming in"
Marshal "Yes but where?"
Driver "near Jeff"
Marshal "where is Jeff"
Driver "over by the big tree"
It sort of went silent after that!
We will be addressing this issue at further events at sites of this size with enhanced maps and markers around the site, but we are sure everyone did leave the site at the end of the day!
As you might be aware this was a charity fund raising day alongside the Macmillan 4x4 for Macmillan Cancer Relief, and we will be making a donation in excess of £600 to the fund.
Thank you to all that attended and made the day enjoyable with your good humour and excellent conduct on site, I personally would like to pass on special thanks to all the officials on the day, especially Claire who covered the gate all day despite the cold!
